Today, RSBI schools use English as their second language. Many schools use English well, but most of them only use Indonesian language. The example of the fact English used in school :
1. Sometimes, the teachers explain the lessons with Indonesian language.
It makes the students feel lazy to speak English or to practice their skill in English. The students think that their teachers use Indonesian language, why they must use English in their study? It was the wrong mindset.
2. Many students feel shy and afraid to speak and use English in their study
The students think that the teachers will angry to them if their English is bad. The students also think that they will be mock with their friends if they can’t speak well.
3. The English term in Science and mathematics is different
Many terms in science and mathematics that students can’t found in dictionary. The students need the science dictionary. If the students can’t understand what is the meaning of that terms, it makes the students can’t understand the lessons.
4. The students feel more comfortable if they use Indonesian language in their study
From they were young, they speak Indonesian and read a lot of text use Indonesian language and it becomes their habit to use Indonesian language as their communication language. The students will more understand when the teachers use Indonesian language when they explain the lessons. But, when the teachers use the English language, the students will not too understand and maybe they will not listen to their teacher’s explanation.
5. The students use digital dictionary when they study using English language
Most of the students in RSBI School use digital dictionary every time. It makes the vocabulary’s knowledge of the students are low. If we use the usual dictionary, it will make our brain can memories it long time. But, when we use digital dictionary, our brain will not memories it for a long time. Our brain only saves it for the short time.
6. Sometimes, the teacher makes situation in the class boring.
Usually, teachers use full-English in their lessons. Actually, it makes the students sleepy and boring.
7. The teachers give the rule that “Students must speak English when they want to ask or answer something.”
Maybe it is the good way to make students can speak English well and make them brave to speak English. In the fact, students can’t develop their knowledge because they don’t want to ask something in English language. The teachers should make the students be brave first, then they can make the rules like that.
8. Too many books for students. There are English book, Bilingual book and Indonesian book.
It makes the students feel confused and desperate to study something.
9. The students think that English is not important so they won’t study it.
10. In the examination or test, the teacher use English language (full). Sometimes, teacher’s grammar isn’t correct and it makes the students confused.
Many problems about “English use in RSBI School.” The writer have written all the problems about it. It based on writer’s experiences at her school. How English could be used effectively in RSBI school ?
1. The teacher should make the compilation of English terms for science and mathematics.
It can help the students to find out the meaning of the terms. Usually, it’s so hard for the students to find out the meaning in the alfa link or dictionary.
2. The teacher should study more and more about English. Especially in grammar.
Sometimes, the students can’t understand what does the teacher said. It’s so complicated and make the students confused.
3. The teacher must make the ‘fun’ way to study in English. Make the students feel comfort when study and make them easy to understanding the lessons.
4. Teacher should give the support to their students in order the students can speak English well.
5. The teacher can use Indonesian Language if the students don’t understand about the lessons. The most important is the materials, not about the language. If the students can understand the materials, they can study about the term and the material in English.
6. The teacher should use the new method in study. It can be like college that the students should find out their own way in study or the other method.
7. Always support every students in their study. Especially, about speaking English.
8. Make the students feel usual to speaking English.

RSBI school needs the synchronization from the teachers and the students. The teacher should make the students interest in study and the students should aware that English lessons in RSBI school is important. In order the RSBI school can fighting with the international school abroad. The writer thinks that education is the important things in the human life. Beside pray to the Almighty God, the people in the world should have the big effort to reach all their ideas. RSBI school is one of the good way for the students in order they can get the best education. All of the citizens in the country should support this education’s program until succeed 100%.
